La Rabita is a typical coastal village on the east of the Costa Tropical coastline. Situated close to Los Moriscos golf course and Sierra Nevada ski resort, yet offering a very traditionally Spanish holiday resort atmosphere. La Rabita has a good variety of holiday rental accommodation including villas, apartments and village houses.
This is a really pretty holiday resort that is mainly populated by Spanish tourists in July and August, and for the rest of the year by the local people of the village. In the winter months the population is around 1,500 however in the summer months this increases to approximately 3,500.
The local people are extremely friendly and go out of their way to be helpful. The village has recently benefited from a considerable amount of European money which has helped to provide a new promenade, pavements, and street lights.
The Promenade in La Rabita is a wonderful place to take a stroll by day or night. The beach is a mixture of sand and pebble, and is safe for all ages to bath. In the height of the summer season, as with all the towns on the Costa Tropical, La Rabita hosts several activities, usually centred around the promenade and beach front. In addition there are many fairs, festivals and circus's that visit the village, the whole year round. You can find several beach bars/restaurants, coupled with a number of friendly local bars in the town centre. There is also a naturist beach for the more adventurous.
La Rabita has 3 supermarkets, 2 banks, newsagents, 1 gift shop, doctors, chemists, 2 fresh fish markets and a meat market. There is an all year round outdoor market on a Friday, although this is obviously very busy throughout the Summer.
In approximately 30 mins drive from La Rabita there are two 18 hole golf courses, two water parks, the beautiful Las Alpujarra's, and Mini-Hollywood. Granada, The Alhambra, and the Sierra Nevada ski resort are about 1 hour away.
An excellent bus service covers this area, with connections to Almeria & Malaga airports. The bus runs regularly servicing Granada, Malaga, Almeria, Seville, Motril and Adra.
The climate on the Costa Tropical is superb, and it has excelled above the Canaries. If you visit La Rabita in the Winter or Spring you can expect an average temperature of 18 degrees and in the summer 30-35 degrees.
