La Herradura

La Herradura is quiet, beautiful town on the Costa Topical. Nestling in a stunningly perfect horseshoe shaped bay lies the small picturesque coastal town of La Herradura.  (Herradura is the Spanish word for horseshoe.)  Situated on the boarders of the Costa Tropical de Granada and the Costa del Sol, it is famous for its crystal clear waters, sheltered beach with excellent water sport facilities and golf  courses are  just a short distance away. La Herradura boasts a good variety of holiday rental properties including Villas and apartments. There is a large hotel in the centre of town and two excellent camp sites on the outskirts.

The large and busy town of Nerja is approximately 10 minutes away to the west and the spectacular coastline between the two towns is designated as a “Natural Park” where some delightful, unspoilt coves can be found including a couple of nudist beaches. The cosmopolitan town of Almunecar is a few minutes to the east.

La Herradura benefits from a long beach, and its excellent selection of  tapas bars and restaurants.  Daily grocery requirements can be easily found in La Herradura itself but Nerja and Almuñecar are within easy reach where a larger variety of shops and markets are located.

La Herradura is popular with tourists who love outdoor activities, there are a couple of scuba diving centres, a yatching marina and horse riding, hang gliding, wind surfing and fishing trips are all easily available.  The natural beauty of the countryside in the surrounding area makes hill walking and bird watching a truly worthwhile experience.

There are numerous musical and cultural events held throughout the warmer months at the neighbouring town of Almunecar and the Caves at Nerja (some of the largest in Europe) host numerous concerts and theatrical dramas every summer.

A number of pharmacists can be found in La Herradura town, and good health centres can be located in Almuecar and Nerja.
