SPANISH WEDDINGS - CEREMONY |
The beauty of Spain is the diversity it can offer couples when it comes to the type of ceremony they would like. On this page we have detailed the types of wedding services available and what is involved in organising it.
Catholic Wedding
It is possible to have a catholic wedding in Spain as long as one of you is catholic. You should allow at least four months to complete the paperwork, but the more notice you can give us the better. Organising a Catholic wedding in Spain basically follows the same process as if you wish to get married outside your own parish at home. You must first talk to your own parish priest, complete paperwork and he will then pass this to the local church authorities here. Once the wedding is completed, the papers must be lodged with the Civil Registry in the locality in Spain in which you have married to legalise the wedding.
Civil Cermony
It is only possible to have a civil wedding in Spain if you are a resident. You must apply to the civil registry where you wish to get married, but it can be a lengthy and complicated process. Our advise is to avoid complication, have a civil wedding at home, and opt for a blessing in Spain which can be held in a stunning location in front of friends and family. After all, you are declaring your love for each other in front of your nearest and dearest. It shouldn't really matter what country you have done the legal part in!
Blessing
A blessing is a ceremony carried out by a priest, a minister, a rabbi, a friend or any other person chosen by the couple. It can take place in a church, on a beach, at the side of a mountain, the list is endless. The point is that it is personal and intimate, and exactly as the couple wants. Many venues now offer a blessing ceremony where they have outside pergolas, a red carpet and chairs laid out in beautiful style, they even print the ceremony booklets. A blessing is not legally binding and it must be preceded by a civil wedding in your home country or in Gilbraltar.
Same Sex Weddings
For same sex weddings, if you are resident in Spain,
it is possible to organise a civil wedding or if not we can organise
a wedding blessing ceremony followed by the reception once you have
been legally married in the UK.
