Majuelo Park Botanical Gardens and Arqueological Excavations tropical_plants_small.jpgMajuelo Park is home to one of the largest outside botanical collections of tropical and subtropical plants and trees in Europe.  Fantastic colourful displays can be seen throughout the whole year from a wide variety of plants and shrubs, together with more than 400 exotic trees.  Sheltered from the sun by the towering and majestic palm trees the park is a great place to sit and relax and is enjoyed by both plant enthusiasts and non enthusiasts alike. passion_flower_small.jpgWithin the park there is a small stage which hosts live music and shows particular during the summer months, with the backdrop of the fabulous flora inside the gardens and the castle outside it is a truly magical place to spend a warm evening. Within the park you will also find a number of small buildings containing workshops and a bar for refreshments. Arqueological Excavations Vistors will quickly see the huge excavated area at the centre of the park. These are what remain of a lucrative fish-salting industry first started by the Phoenicians and then expanded and 'industrialised' by the Romans. The constructions you can see are salting pits, and foundations of the buildings which contained them. Between them run water channels and narrow passageways. Clearly only a part of the original complex has been excavated and further constructions still lie beneath the rest of the park. Opening Hours The park is open during daylight hours in summer and until approximately 19.30 during the winter. For special evening events it's kept open until midnight or later.
