Losing weight from the inside
out.
Or are you someone always promising
yourself to lose weight?
Promising to lose those extra pounds, to
detox your body, to eat and drink more healthily, to exercise and oh yes,
promising that you’ll never overindulge again?
Does this resonate with you?
Is it the same promise you make to yourself
every year or even every couple of months?
What
if this year you chose to do things differently?
What if there was a way that you could lose
weight, feel healthy and still enjoy your favourite food?
Whether you need to lose weight or simply
change your eating habits for health
I’m here to tell you that there is a way
and it is not through any fad diets because in the long term they don’t work, which
is why you find yourself repeating the same patterns year in year out.
The way to succeed is through Conscious
Eating, by learning to listen to your body from the inside rather than judging
how it looks from the outside.
Maintaining a healthy relationship with
food and losing weight and keeping it off permanently requires a change in your
thinking. As Wayne Dyer says ‘Change the
way you look at things and the things you look at change’ so when you change
the way you think about yourself, it will automatically follow that the way you
treat yourself will change too and with ease.
When you give up striving to live up to
some external standard of what size clothes you should wear or what the
weighing scales say or what this person thinks of you or how your body compares
to that of your best friend then you free yourself up to truly listen to your
body and when you do that you open yourself up to healthier choices.
As in this cartoon do you judge your health
and weight according to external factors? i.e. the weighing scale or what someone
else thinks or do you judge through your own awareness?, through noticing your
body changes, through listening to the messages that your body is giving
you, through treating yourself with kindness.
How many people do you know strip off,
remove jewellery and even use the bathroom before jumping on the scales...just
to ensure it reads less!
Well, it
may come as a surprise...or not ...to learn that the only person you are
deceiving is yourself!
In case you still haven't 'got it'
- it's fat, body fat that contributes to you being overweight or unhealthy
and body fat is not contained in your clothes, earings or bath towel!
So if you truly want to lose weight -
i.e. FAT then throw away the scales and begin listening to your body,
really listening and then acting upon what you hear.
Then and only then will you find the energy
and freedom to make the best choices for your health and wellbeing
forever!
Consider
the following
o
In what ways do you find
yourself resisting the truth of what is right now? (your current health, body shape,
eating habits, lifestyle)
o
Do you yearn for what can never
be? (a genetically different body shape, more hours in the day, a
metabolism that allows you to eat 10,000 calories, not exercise and not gain
weight)
o
Do you find yourself responding
to these and your daily stresses and emotions through food, drink, self
defamation?
o
Do you enthusiastically start
new diets only to discover a month or two down the line that not only have you
given up but you've gained more weight again?
o
Are you ready to really do
things differently?
So
my challenge to you this month is to try things differently.
How?
Through following the guiding principles of
the Conscious Eating Coaching Program
- Forget the weighing scales and begin to listen what is really
going on in your body.
- Accepting the truth about where you are right now i.e.your body
shape, size and health.
- Start raising your Awareness about your habits and the
underlying triggers that keep you from maintaining a healthy relationship
with food,
- Begin taking Action in small, manageable and easy steps to
reach your goals.
Top 10 Tips to Eating Consciously
- There's no such thing as a quick fix - Healthy Eating is a life
long commitment. Statistics show that whilst most fad diets have some
degree of initial success, more than 80% of people, when they stop dieting
will put the weight back on - plus more.
- Identify your motivation for wanting to change. Is it a
short term weight loss goal to drop a few pounds or more long term to
maintain, improve your health? Your reason will affect your ability
to persist and succeed.
- Identify your unhealthy or unhelpful eating habits and
triggers - thisl free you to make better choices. Keeping a diary/journal
to record your thoughts as well as your food will help you better
understand yourself.
- Understand a little about the nutritional value - or not, of
your favourite foods - would you
treat your car the way you treat your body?
- If it's not food don't eat it - become conscious of what you're
putting in your mouth - does it provide your body with 'fuel' or just fill
the empty hole and satisfy your taste buds?
- A little bit of what you fancy keeps the cravings away.
Anything in moderation.
- A minimum amount of exercise is essential - if you find
that a daunting thought then invent new ways to move your body and call it
something different.
- Listen to your body, learn to recognise when it is truly hungry
and equally important when it is full. Learn to recognise when your
body is hungry and distinguish between hunger and thirst. To do this
- when you think you're hungry have a glass of water first.
- Surround yourself with supportive people, join a club or hire a
coach.
- Love and accept yourself where you are today - This is the only
sure way to succeed. Staying focussed on your successes, accepting
yourself and your choices even if they turn out not to be so great is the
only winning formula to a happy and successful life.
