Most of us see our pets as part of our family and as such bringing them with us when we go abroad is becoming a common event. However with tight animal movement regulations, health risks and changes in climate it can be a very worrying experience.
Information and advice can be obtained from DEFRA, your local vet, airlines and specialist animal transport companies. It is also worth trying to speak to a vet based in the place of your destination many of whom speak English, as some diseases and parasite, which may be very dangerous to your pets, are locally based and maybe unknown to your vet in the UK. It is also worth noting that as Spain is such a large country, there are different animal health problems occur in different Spanish regions. Again it is certainly worth speaking to a vet based in Andalucia or the Granada region to find out what steps you need to be taking before you set off on your journey.
Once you have taken all the necessary steps to ensure the health and protection of your pets you can relax and enjoy their company whether you are travelling abroad for a short holiday, plan a longer stay or are permanently moving to Spain and Andalucia.
