Food and Drink

A fundamental part of your stay in the Costa Tropical and Granada region is the enjoyment of experiencing and experimenting with the cuisine. Traditionally, the midday meal is the most important time of the day when all the family stop to eat together.  This way of life is still very popular today and very much a part of modern living in this part of the Spain.  What could be better than an alfresco lunch commencing with a chilled gazpacho soup and a nice cold glass of beer or wine.

The Mediterranean diet is one of the most nutritionally healthy in the world.  Fresh fish is caught daily and sold in the docks at Motril, fresh fruit, vegetables, and salad produce are all grown in abundance, whilst slightly more inland cured ham, sausages (chorizio) and cheese are the usual fare.  Fresh bread is baked locally in every town and village throughout the Costa Tropical and Granada provence and is served with every meal together with the most delicious olive oil.

Many people think the Costa Tropical got its name because of the wonderful climate to be found here, but in fact it originates from the tropical fruit that is grown throughout the provence.  Chiramoyas, Nisperos, Advocados, mangos and sugar cane are all grown in large numbers, although the production of local rum has now sadly ceased.
