This superb 3 bedroom Cortijo (farmhouse) is located just 5 minutes walk from the traditional Spanish village of Niguelas, Lecrin valley.  The village is a very short drive from the main Granada to Motril motorway giving easy access to the beaches of both Salobrena and Motril, to the south, the historic city of Granada and the Sierra Nevada ski resort to the north. It is situated in an ideal location for walking, bird watching and many other types of activity holidays.  There are a total of 5 golf courses in the area, the furthest away being Los Moriscos (30 mins), on the coast at Motril.

The downstairs of the property consists of two large open plan areas including a sitting room with comfortable sofas and a large woodburning stove, fully equipped kitchen/ dining room, utility room. There are 3 bedrooms, master with double bed, a twin room, and the third with 2 bunk beds. Outside there are both shaded and open patios and a large private swimming pool. Surounding the house are gardens with olive trees, vines and various other fruit trees.  It is 5 minutes walk to the centre of the village which has several grocery shops. There are beautiful walks from the front door including the GR7 long distance footpath.  The swimming pool is available from May until October.

LOCAL INFORMATION

Niguelas is one of about 20 villages that make up the Lecrin valley, which was named by the moors and means "valley of happiness". It is a very beautiful and fertile regionthanks to the plentiful water supply from the Sierra Nevada , much of it from the melted snow. Niguelas is a great base from which to explore the surrounding countryside where the wildlife is abundant with many birds and wild flowers. there are many walks up into the Sierra Nevada, Lanjaron and the Alpujarras mountains.

Travel south to the and you will find the beaches of Motril and Salobrena with great fish restaurants, caught fresh that morning. To the north is the Sierra Nevada ski resort and the fantastic city of Granada, with its famous, moorish, Alhambra Palace. There is a bus service from Niguelas to Granada, via Durcal which is the next town town and has a wide range of tapas bars,shops,  restaurants and everything you would expect from a medium size town. The church is in the main square of Niguelas and the bars serve free tapas with every drink. 
 
 
Fruit (oranges, lemons, chiramoya apples, figs, pomegranates, olives and almonds) together with many other crops are locally grown everywhere and can often be seen overhanging garden walls and fences. Being a mountainous region, the farmers sometimes have to be quite adventurous in some of the places that they grow their crops - it can leave you wondering how they get there to cultivate the land, let alone harvest the crop! Many of the crops are still grown in terraces - a method introduced by the Moors many centuries ago.

SKIING

Sierra Nevada ski resort is approximately 45 mins drive from the cortijo. The resort is open from December to April.  Click here for up to date ski report.

Niguelas is serviced by a good road and motorway network with good direct access to Malaga, Granada and Almeria airports.
