This superb 3 bedroom holiday rental apartment is situated within the peaceful and traditional Spanish village of Guajar Alto. Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range Guajar Alto is ideally situated for birdwatching, flora and fauna, and mountain walking enthusiasts. The village offers a small variety of shops, tapas bars and restaurants.  The beaches of Playa Granada and Salobrena to the south are only 30 minutes drive away, whilst the city of Granada and the Sierra Nevada Ski resort to the north are approximately 60 minutes journey.

This holiday rental apartment consists of a large master double bedroom with 2 twin bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a fully fitted, well equipped kitchen. The large lounge/ diner has a balcony and the apartment benefits from air conditioning and large communal roof terrace.

Guájar Alto is regarded as one of the most attractive villages in Andalucia and is well known for its bars and restaurants that offer excellent food and locally produced wines at incredibly low prices.  Guajar Alto is one of the three villages that makes up  the area of Los Guájares (the other two being Guájar Fondón and Guájar Faragüit).  As the name of the village implies (Alto which means tall or high in Spanish), is also the highest of the three at over 400 metres above sea level.

Prices are for the property per week in euros.  25% of the weekly rate is payable at the time of booking and the balance to be paid 2 months before arrival.  A security  deposit of 200€ is required on arrival which is returned on departure.

LOCAL INFORMATION

Situated at the end of a valley, you will find very little traffic in Guájar Alto - there is no road beyond the village, other than tracks to local houses and the 'swimming pool' making this traditional Spanish village a lovely, tranquil and safe, environment.

The village has a small shop, and vehicles selling produce - bread, vegetables, fish - appear at various times during the day. The produce is fresh, of good quality and is excellent value. For your more serious shopping, Motril is about half an hour away where you will find a large supermarket selling just about everything.  Guajar Alto has its own fresh spring drinking water supply which literally pours out of the walls in several places around the village.  All you need is an empty bottle to collect it.
 
Fruit (oranges, lemons, chiramoya apples, figs, pomegranates, olives and almonds) together with many other crops are locally grown everywhere and can often be seen overhanging garden walls and fences. Being a mountainous region, the farmers sometimes have to be quite adventurous in some of the places that they grow their crops - it can leave you wondering how they get there to cultivate the land, let alone harvest the crop! Many of the crops are still grown in terraces - a method introduced by the Moors many centuries ago.

Guájar Alto boasts three bars/cafeterias; Bar Olivo, Bar Carmen and Bar Pepe. All of them serve free tapas when you order drink. Bar Carmen serve a superb 'menu del dia' (menu of the day) for as little as 9 Euros per person (including a lovely local red wine).

SKIING

Los Guajares is serviced by a good road and motorway network with good direct access to Malaga, Granada and Almeria airports.
