All along the shores of the Costa Tropical coast line there is a whole host of water sports waiting to be discovered. As the Costa Tropical is the “undiscovered” Spanish costa, the beaches and water to be found here are generally uncrowded and perfect for all manner of water sport activities.
Snorkelling and Scuba Diving
Snorkelling and scuba diving are growing in popularity along this rugged coastline. La Herradura and Marina del Este in particular are superb locations for snorkelling and scuba diving where the water is extremely clear. There are also a number of scuba diving schools to be found in this area. Recently an artificial reef was constructed off the Penon Rock at Salobrena to encourage marine life which is also proving to be a big hit. Almunecar also boasts excellent snorkelling and scuba diving conditions especially in and around the rocky shores to the west of the beach.
Wind Surfing
It is rumoured that in times gone by the Costa Tropical was referred to as the “windy costa”, as there is often a good strong breeze blowing in across the Mediterranean from Morocco making the Costa Tropical the
perfect location for windsurfing enthusiasts. Although still a
relatively unknown coastline, the Costa Tropical is growing in
popularity within the windsurfing community.

Fishing
Fishing is also growing in favor, with off shore fishing trips available from both Motril and Marina del Este marinas. It is always advisable to book these in advance especially during the summer months as these excursions are now very much in demand. There are also a number of lakes and resevoirs located throughout the Costa Tropical and Granada region for fresh water fishing enthusiasts.
Boating and Yatching.
With only two Marinas to be found along the Costa Tropical coastline the waters here are open and uncrowded, on some days you could easily feel that your boat was the only vessel in the world. The two main marinas are located at Marina del Este which can be found to the west of the Costa Tropical, whilst the marina at Motril is situated roughly in the middle. There is also a sea mooring marina further to the east of the region at Calahonda. Boat hire can be found at both Motril and Marina del Este although you must have a boat licence to drive a boat in Spain.
